About Thrive Coaching:
How did Thrive start? Through life experience after life experience! The real turning point though was when I was working as a Duty Manager in the British Airways Lost Baggage department and as you can imagine, we rarely met a happy customer! Every day the team was challenged to the max and yet most of them of them stayed despite it all. So, as well as dealing with customers who were upset and anxious, I had to keep the team motivated.
Then one day my manager encouraged me to apply for a role in the BA training department. Until that point, I had a phobia of public speaking, so how was that going to work I thought! It was only because I had an amazing leader who believed in me that I was able to move past my blocks and apply for that position. I got the job!
Me on Day 1: Yikes, what the heck have I done!
I was so nervous presenting my first training course because it had been written by someone else and I had to learn their stance on that topic. Then I was asked to design a stress management programme for the airline. This was a topic I was very familiar with because I was training to be a counsellor and was a volunteer with the BA Employee Assistance Programme. So, I realised that when presenting my own material, I was only stepping slightly outside my comfort zone. So, I overcame my phobia and I haven’t looked back!
I became a Training Consultant withing the airline, training people globally and was involved in some very exciting projects, such as the introduction of ticketless travel when it first came in, in the 90’s. We had to train our people worldwide to ensure a seamless transition for customers as well as for the industry.
On the 1st January, I took the plunge and started my own Training Company and here we are!
