What Are You Noticing?

what-are-you-noticingWhat are you noticing? A recent LinkedIn post caught my attention…

The author suggested that perhaps the traditional elevator pitch is becoming outdated and invited people to complete the sentence:

“I love my job because I get to…”

I found myself thinking about the power of that small shift.

Not because of the words themselves; more because of what they invite us to notice.

Recently, I’ve been reflecting on how much of our experience is shaped by where we place our attention.

  • When we’re under pressure, we notice problems.
  • When we’re worried, we notice risks.
  • When we’re frustrated, we notice what’s missing.

None of these are wrong. In fact, they can be incredibly useful.

Yet what we notice repeatedly often becomes the story we tell ourselves about our work, our relationships and even ourselves.

  • The same meeting can feel inspiring to one person and exhausting to another.
  • The same organisational change can look like opportunity to one person and uncertainty to another.

The difference is not always the situation. Sometimes it’s what each person is noticing.

As a coach, I’m continually fascinated by how often meaningful change begins with awareness rather than action.

Before people change their behaviour, they often change what they see.

So, here’s a question I’d like to leave with you:

Not what are you doing.
Not what should you be doing.

Simply:

What are you noticing?

Because sometimes the smallest shift in awareness can create the biggest shift in perspective.

I would love to hear what you are noticing!

With warmest wishes,
